Initial situation
With the establishment of state-of-the-art logistics centers in Biglen and Burgdorf, BUSINESSCOM has consistently implemented its digitalization strategy. The centerpiece is the use of a highly automated storage system. For this purpose, the latest systems from SSI Schäfer were employed. The management of high-bay warehouses, robots, and drones requires a high-performance Edge Cloud infrastructure, which must be operated at the production site due to latency reasons. Moreover, the Edge Cloud must have high availability, as even the slightest interruptions can have severe consequences for process execution. As an ambitious company, BusinessCom AG sought a capable digitalization partner and technology supplier who understood their visionary approach and could meet the high demands of the digitalized logistics processes. Solution
Based on the specific requirements from SSI Schäfer, Netrics designed a tailored Edge Cloud infrastructure and implemented it on-site. A comprehensive and reliable WLAN infrastructure was set up to support the precision scanner systems in all storage areas. Despite the challenging local conditions and extensive interferences generated by the technical equipment, Netrics was able to solve this demanding task in collaboration with relevant specialists and provide adequate WLAN coverage. To ensure seamless processes, the ERP system is operated in a Private Cloud at Netrics. This system interacts seamlessly with the Edge Cloud of BusinessCom AG on-site and the scanners from the picking process. The performance, availability, and end-to-end monitoring of the process are of utmost importance. Additionally, the Netrics Modern Workplace from the Public Cloud is utilized so that employees can perform their specific tasks anytime and from anywhere, and control the necessary processes. In this way, it is ensured that the entire value chain, from the Edge Cloud through the Private Cloud to the Public Cloud, is optimally supported with the appropriate technology and fully integrated.
